What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness that naturally occurs in every person just before entering the sleep state. This is known as the alpha state, a state you often transit to, while driving, daydreaming, listening to music or a boring speech, watching TV or a movie, even while playing computer games. The old expression “Zone Out” is your natural way of accessing the entry of a pleasant relaxed state where the conscious mind semi-sleeps and the subconscious mind is more dominate with a focused listening pattern.

Can you be Hypnotized?

Yes. Did you know that even chickens or snakes can be hypnotized? Therefore, you can be lead into the altered state of Hypnosis. It is not a “power over” you and your mind; it is a pleasurable trusting of the Hypnotherapist to insert the ideas you are seeking to manage your life successfully. The Hypnotherapist determines what learning “style” the individual has and then knows what type of induction and suggestions to use in order to bypass the “Critical Area of Mind” to work effectively within the subconscious mind.

How does it feel to be Hypnotized?

The average person thinks that the hypnotic state will feel foreign to them. Sometimes people mistakenly relate being hypnotized with being unconscious, anesthetized or asleep. Most find that their minds are active and they can hear every sound in the room. Some believe that they are a poor subject because their thoughts are racing, their attention keeps wandering, they have not fallen asleep and that they remember everything that has happened when they open their eyes, in fact this is completely normal. Your body will feel physically relaxed and either heavy or light in mass. In fact, you may be surprised at how relaxed your body can be and how refreshed you feel upon awakening. Only 20 minutes in a hypnotic state is equal to 5 hours of sound sleep!

Although some may expect something different in hypnosis, the experience is one of familiarity. The mind is active, many thoughts are stimulated and all your senses are heightened while the Hypnotherapist is in complete communication with you.

How does Hypnotherapy work?

We have three main parts to our brain: the conscious mind, the subconscious mind and the critical area of mind (CAM) that is the filtration system between the primary minds. By our 12th birthday or thereabouts, your filtration system or CAM seals off all the information the subconscious mind has received for the past 12 years. Whether you believe that information is good, bad or unnecessary it is now the breeding ground for your LIFE SCRIPTS. This is how you act, react, physically feel and think.

To get to the subconscious mind we must enter into sleep mode and the CAM opens up and releases into your subconscious mind a maximum of 24 hours of information that you accumulated all day long. This empowers the already existing scripts in your subconscious mind. These scripts are like habits and bombard your conscious thoughts with tiring chatter, feelings and images often creating what we call “stress”. This stress can build to a point where you become indecisive and tired. The habits and scripts have won.

By the time one has reached adulthood, they have built up negative modes of thinking, feeling and actions which persist like bad habits. You do not feel in control of your life anymore. After leading you to a relaxed state of being and opening the CAM, the trained Clinical Hypnotherapists uses suggestions, imagery or healing techniques designed for your subconscious mind to understand, translate and re-empower your life scripts. When your mind is performing positively in all aspects, you can easily obtain the life you want to have.
